After finishing second in the African selection of the Pastry World Cup in Agadir, Team Mauritius now continues its journey to the Grand Final in Lyon on 22 and 23 January 2027. A remarkable achievement that highlights the talent, creativity and high standards of Mauritian pastry professionals.

At this level of competition, every creation reflects hours of work, technical precision and a deep understanding of ingredients and techniques. In Agadir, Morocco, Team Mauritius demonstrated just that, securing second place in the 2026 African selection, behind Morocco and ahead of Egypt.

The result earns Mauritius a place in the prestigious World Final in Lyon, where the best teams from the various continental selections will come together.

Talents united by one challenge

Mauritius was represented by Dominique Oraison, in charge of chocolate, Pravesh Gokhoola, specialising in sugar work, and Shivam Marooday, responsible for frozen creations. Alongside them, Sandy Scioli, Corporate Pastry Chef and trainer, supports the team’s preparation, with the backing of the Escoffier Luxury Institute Mauritius.

Throughout the competition, participants were challenged to combine creativity, technical skill and artistic vision across a series of demanding pastry disciplines, from desserts and chocolate creations to sugar work and elaborate artistic pieces. At this level, the balance of flavours is just as important as the precision of execution.

Beyond the podium, this achievement shines a spotlight on Mauritian expertise and its growing presence on the international gastronomic stage.

A showcase for Mauritian culinary talent

For an island where hospitality and gastronomy are integral to the travel experience, this qualification carries particular significance. Across Mauritius, in hotels, restaurants, schools and pastry kitchens, chefs and pastry professionals continue to shape a culinary culture enriched by a wide range of influences.

Team Mauritius’ performance gives international visibility to these professions, built on passion, discipline and the transmission of skills.

Next stop: Lyon 2027. A new challenge for the Mauritian team, and another opportunity to showcase the island’s expertise at the highest level.

From Agadir to Lyon, the journey continues.
