In April 1994, in the very first issue of Côte Nord Magazine, Calodyne was already presented as a peaceful alternative to the growing bustle of Grand Baie and Pereybère.
It was against this backdrop that the magazine featured L’Archipel, a recently renovated small hotel complex comprising nine bungalows, four studios and one apartment. With a seafront swimming pool, views over the northern islands, carefully prepared cuisine, personalised service and sega evenings, the property embraced an intimate style of hospitality deeply rooted in the Mauritian way of life.
Reading the article again more than thirty years later also offers a glimpse into a time when tourism development in the north of Mauritius was still shaped by small, independent and family-run establishments. It captures Calodyne before the coastline underwent major transformation, when tranquillity, tropical surroundings and warm hospitality were already among its defining attractions.
