Explore Île aux Aigrettes, a protected nature reserve in Mauritius, home to endemic wildlife, native flora and vital conservation initiatives.

Just off the south-east coast of Mauritius, Île aux Aigrettes is one of the island’s last remaining sanctuaries for endemic wildlife and native plant species.

This protected nature reserve acts as an open-air conservation laboratory. Thanks to the work of the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation and its partners, several rare species have been protected, reintroduced and closely monitored within a carefully restored environment.

Along the way, visitors encounter indigenous vegetation, endemic birds and some of Mauritius’ most emblematic animals. Each species tells a story of vulnerability, but also one of hope, resilience and ecological restoration.

Travel-Îles takes you into the heart of this unique island sanctuary, where Mauritian nature is gradually finding its balance again. It is an immersion in a precious living heritage, one that remains essential to protect for future generations.
